17 things I learned in 2017

A year goes by so quickly but yet it is a big section of your life that is now written in stone and you'll never get back or get to change. So it is useul if not necessary to look back at your lived experiences and see what good has come out of it all. All the new experiences, places you've seen, people you met and things you learned about yourself.

  1. Promise your art to support it and don't ask of it to support you or it will ruin the relationship and the creativity. Thats one of the most important one for me. My creativity is a part of me and it always will be. Whether it will bring in money or not I won't stop creating because that's what makes me happy.
  2. I like being on my own and thats okay. I fully accepted that fact about myself this year and it's been a relief. I function well when I'm alone and that's just fine. There's nothing wrong with me because of it.
  3. I want to act and not react. I want to be a doer and make ideas and plans happen.
  4. I kind of am a perfectionist in the sense that i do care about things-maybe too much, I was just always trying to tell myself I dont care but that never helped. So embrace the stuff you care about and make yourself vulnerable with it. Its a strength to be passionate about something. But also accept, that you can never get anything perfect. Be satisfied with the best you can do at the moment.
  5. You are exactly where you need to be in your life. You are not too late with anything. You have experienced what you needed to to be who you  are today. ANd everything will work out when it will if you keep working for it.
  6. It is okay not to know who you are. You get to create yourself to be whoever you want to be. Strive to have the qualities you admire in others.
  7. What you do doesn't define you. You never are what you do so don't let those things stress you out too much. You never have to put youself in a category. You can have a million sides to you that don't "go together".
  8. I am moody. My moods do change quickly and theres not always a reason for that. Now that I've recognized that, I can actually step back and see that so it doesn't affect me as much anymore.
  9. Forgive yourself. Anything you've done or felt or thought isn't meant to be carried around for the rest of your life. It's okay. Learn from it and move on.
  10. Its okay that you can't control everything. In fact you have very little control over anything at all. Neither anything that happens in the world nor a lot of things in your own life and thats okay. It actually takes a lot of pressure off of you if you think about it. You can really only do the best to contribute as much good as you can. But you're not responsible for anything else.
  11. Don't be so serious. Laugh about the shitty stuff and stupid situations. Humor is the best way to handle any failures. It makes it easier to get back up every single day and start over.
  12. Go to yourself for advice. Nobody can ever give you really good advice, they just can't know you well enough. Only you know what you really want and what makes you happy. You usually know the answer anyways you just want to give up the responsibility and have someone to blame if it doesn't work out.
  13. Spend your time however you want and don't let anyone tell you whats worth your time and what isn't. Yes it's true you only have a limited amount of time to spend in this life and it's usually well-intentioned advice if someone tells you to get off the couch and go outside but honestly maybe at that moment you need that time to recharge or you're doing something useful on your computer and the other person just doesn't know what you're doing or why so don't let anyone make you unsure about what and how you're doing it. The only one you owe an explanation is you.
  14. Friends are important but you come first. You don't owe anyone your time. Friends are great but only as long as the time you spend with them is beneficial for both sides. You should never feel obliged to doing anything if you don't feel up to it.
  15. Distance from your family will make the relationship better. This goes for anyone but with family it's crazy how much of a difference it makes if you have that distance. When everyone is off doing their own thing you will get along way better. Especially because with family you always know you won't lose touch and you have that safety net to fall back on. ( And the higher you go, the more you will love that net ;) )
  16. Dream big and work hard for those dreams. It is okay AND important to have dreams. You need to dream big to start acting with enough momentum to get far and for it to be worth the work you put in. Nothing is worse than working for something you don't want to archieve so find something that's worth working hard for. Only then you will be able to deal with all the shitty stuff that comes with anything you do.
  17. With everything you want to be good at you have to start somewhere. And that's by really sucking at it. You ARE definitely going to be bad but that only means you're doing it. And each time you are, it definitely will make you better. Just keep doing it.
